Patellar luxation is one of the most common orthopedic conditions in dogs, especially small breeds, and without surgical correction, it can lead to chronic pain, arthritis, and decreased mobility. Our mobile orthopedic surgery service brings advanced procedures like tibial crest transposition and femoral deformity correction directly to your hospital, allowing you to retain cases and support your clients with trusted, high-quality care.

What Is Patellar Luxation in Pets?
Patellar luxation occurs when the kneecap (patella) slips out of its normal groove in the femur. It’s usually medial but can also be lateral, particularly in larger dogs. Severity ranges from occasional skipping to constant lameness or limb dysfunction. Over time, recurrent luxation causes discomfort, inflammation, and damage to surrounding structures.
While grade I luxations may be managed conservatively, surgical correction is often required for grades II–IV or when clinical signs impact quality of life.
Surgical Treatment Options for Patellar Luxation
Our approach to patellar luxation correction is highly individualized and often combines several techniques based on radiographs, exam findings, and joint anatomy. All procedures include fascial imbrication and trochlear block recession as needed.
